No winter is complete without a crack at a really big grayling and it was with this in mind that JT headed up to the Borders with Andy recently to fish the Tweed system. Freezing fog and snow gave way to lovely winter sunshine on the first day and JT had a couple of beauties. Attention switched to Leader Water on the second day and it was Andy's turn to hit a nice fish or two. Mission: to catch a few big grayling... Mission Accomplished!!!

Sorry for the delay in getting new posts online - but we do have a good reason this time. We have been working hard in the editing studio and we're now in the final stages of completing our new DVD - "Small Stream Trout Fishing". Fingers crossed it will be available by late February, so we hope to have some with us at the Spring Fly Fair at Newark. JT and Deano will be there to sign (or deface however you feel about it) copies purchased at the event. You will find us with the co-sponsors Total Flyfisher magazine.

We have also started filming the next in the River Academy series - "Winter Grayling Fishing" - watch this space or check out our website for details on both.

Back to work on 4th January for JT, guiding/guesting again on the Wye. Another scorching day with about 50 grayling landed, including these beauties (shame about the hat though!)

The first outing of 2009 took Deano and JP to their local river on 2nd January. The year got off to a flying start for Deano with a double hook-up of grayling from a pool that produced 14 fish in total.
Just when the pair thought things couldn’t get any better JP managed not one but two barbel! If anyone has any doubts as to the capabilities of a 4wt streamflex take a look at these pics. Total for the day… 50 grayling (all of good average size) and 2 barbel.

Then while his relatives were asleep on the morning of New Year’s Day, JT stole out for an hour on his local river and started 2009 as he means to continue… seven nice grayling, including this one which looks to have been in a fight earlier in life.

JT managed one final trip of 2008 on 30th December guiding/guesting on the Derbyshire Wye. A genuine “red-letter day” with upwards of 70 grayling landed. This is one of the better ones.

Deano and JP made their last trip of 2008 to the River Calder on 29th December. To say it was cold would be an understatement but the fishing was well worth it. The day ended with a total of 37 grayling one of which (pictured) fell to a size 22 dry fly.

Next up, it was across to the Welsh Dee with Andy. JT hadn't fished it since Wales last hosted the River International in 2005 and it was Andy's first time on the river. Once again, it was a highly successful visit with over 40 fish landed.

That may be it until after Christmas for the Fish On team. If so, have a great Christmas and if you do manage to wet a line over the Festive period, may it be a Tight One!

JT had to postpone quite a few guiding days earlier in December with fluctuating river levels and high doses of salt/grit running in off the roads, but fortunately managed to get out a couple of times during the last week. First off was a first ever bugging trip for Frank. Well, he was a very quick learner as this beauty (one of a 10 fish haul) will show:
