Next up, it was across to the Welsh Dee with Andy. JT hadn't fished it since Wales last hosted the River International in 2005 and it was Andy's first time on the river. Once again, it was a highly successful visit with over 40 fish landed.

That may be it until after Christmas for the Fish On team. If so, have a great Christmas and if you do manage to wet a line over the Festive period, may it be a Tight One!

JT had to postpone quite a few guiding days earlier in December with fluctuating river levels and high doses of salt/grit running in off the roads, but fortunately managed to get out a couple of times during the last week. First off was a first ever bugging trip for Frank. Well, he was a very quick learner as this beauty (one of a 10 fish haul) will show:

Towards the end of the month, we had the first real frosts of the year and those clear blue skies with low wintry sunshine. Proper grayling weather! JT couldn’t resist a trip or two out on his own in such beautiful conditions and his efforts were well rewarded!

JT and JP were extremely privileged to be invited onto Derbyshire’s little River Noe as guests late on in November. They concentrated their efforts on the two lower beats and had 50 fish between them. The average size of the grayling was fair and their haul included one or two real beauties. Shame neither of them could find their razors in the morning though…

JP and Deano managed a short session on their local River mid November during one of Deano’s brief breaks in filming the new series of “Ashes”. The weather was cold but both managed fish on dries in amongst all the bug captures.

A trip to Barcelona mid month got in the way of JT’s fishing (but was very pleasant nonetheless!) Luckily on his return the rivers carried on in scintillating form with good numbers of good grayling falling to JT and his clients

November started really well for JT with three short but really productive sessions on the Welsh Wye at Builth Wells. There for the autumn AAPGAI gathering, he managed to sneak off for a couple of hours each afternoon and find some cracking sport on the dry fly! Could make some obvious crack about rainbows and pots of gold, but hey, why bother?

JT lost his first few days to the weather this year in October, with scenes like this messing with his work a few times… These are the famous Stepping Stones at Bolton Abbey on the Wharfe, or rather, where they should be!

JT’s tuition weekend at the end of October went really well with all clients connecting with some lovely grayling. It’s best to focus on tactics and techniques rather than merely ‘catching’, but putting a few in the net certainly raises the confidence levels!

Exactly 50% of the Fish On team made a trip to South Yorkshire mid-month and it took a while to find the fish, but plenty of fun was had when they were finally located! Isn’t it strange when you fish through several hundred meters of prime-looking grayling water without a take, and then proceed to get about 15 from the same tiny piece of water?

We must get a more regular update sorted out for this blog! Our sincere apologies for the ‘lateness’ of this catch up.

JT had a busy October’s guiding with various clients across Derbyshire and Yorkshire with some lovely grayling being caught.
The Wharfe, Calder and Goyt gave good sport with 20-30 fish per session the norm rather than the exception.

21st September - National River Final

The National was held on the beautiful river Tees this year and it was an excellent venue. The top two beats fished extremely well and the lower two were more of a challenge. Shortage of controllers left anglers controlling for each other and fishing half a day on the Saturday and Sunday. Pictured are the two lads I controlled for, Robert Brown and Alex Bobba (who incidentally both qualified for next year's England team, along with Simon Robinson, me and Richard Cobbledick)... Bring on the Taff next July!

I returned from hosting a trip to Poland's majestic San River about 5 weeks ago and still can't stop thinking about the place. Seven of us made the journey and the fishing was nothing short of sensational. On the best days we were landing upwards of 100 fish, mainly grayling, and some very big ones indeed. My best for the week went 46cm - a beauty - but nothing special for this incredible river. I will definitely be returning next season.
